Chicago's own Mother Nature, the powerhouse duo of Klevah and TRUTH, has once again brought the fire with their new EP, Caps 'N Stemz. Known for their sharp lyricism and devotion to building a lasting legacy through hip hop, this release takes us on a journey through themes of self-discovery, nature, and community empowerment all through the duo's signature blend of substance and simplicity.
Released on November 8, 2024, this four-track EP is a collaborative venture with producer Rokmore, carrying listeners through a psychedelic, introspective, and soulful landscape. Songs like "Flower Talk" and "Auraz" (featuring Bee Honey and Gr8Sky) capture Mother Nature's essence, balancing hard-hitting bars with an uplifting consciousness that speaks to their community-driven mission. Each track serves as a micro-dose of their creative energy, giving fans a taste of what's to come and inspiring them to "tag a homie" and join in on the experience. Recorded and mixed at Opal Studio, engineered by Rhett Gregory, and mastered by Boathouse at Classick Studios, the EP boasts a powerhouse lineup of collaborators that enrich the Mother Nature soundscape. With support from Closed Sessions, 3V Agency, and QPMG, "Caps 'N Stemz" is a bold exploration of what happens when hip hop artists fuse music with purpose. The Breakdown: 'Caps 'N Stemz'â
"Flower Talk" The EP opens with 'Flower Talk' an affirmation of infinite love and community growth. The line, "Throw them 8s up, Infinite love over all creation," feels like a call to recognize unity within the natural world. Klevah and TRUTH trade verses with ease, harmonizing the strength of their message with lines like, "Hieroglyphs on walls of my environment, I'm higher than." This track invites us to reflect on our surroundings and to see ourselves as part of something eternal. For me, "Flower Talk" reminds us of hip hop's roots in storytelling and history, serving as a grounding force while exploring identity and consciousness.
"Auraz" (featuring Bee Honey and Gr8Sky) "Auraz" has a more ethereal vibe, encouraging listeners to embrace freedom and authenticity. The hook, "Say it how you feel, Tell me what you really want," feels like an invitation to shed pretense and embrace vulnerability. The line, "I'm mad at the world but I'm proud of myself, That's revolution,"strikes a powerful note, touching on the internal conflict many of us feel amid struggles for personal and social change. This track hit me hard. It's a beautiful, honest anthem for the journey of growth and resilience, embodying a fierce sense of pride even amid challenges. "Anywhere" With "Anywhere" Mother Nature delivers a message of guidance and leadership, as they channel wisdom in lines like, "Left my flying saucer down to earth to lead the lost." The track's cosmic imagery paints a picture of connection across worlds, grounding the listener while sparking an otherworldly curiosity. "Polish match my aura glow,"gives off a sense of alignment, as if both artists are fully in their element, allowing their authentic selves to shine. This track reminded me of the importance of both vision and humility, the perfect balance Mother Nature achieves as they deliver insight without ego.
"Do Sumn" 'Do Sumn' wraps up the EP with an anthem of self-celebration and empowerment. In "Celebrate myself, cause I'm so sativa," Klevah and TRUTH push listeners to affirm their own worth, challenging societal expectations. This track feels personal and unapologetic, especially in lines like, "Bet she don't do it like this, How she gon' do what I did?" It's a reminder of self-respect and staying true to oneâs values, reinforcing that only we can truly define our worth. For me, 'Do Sumn' is a bold exclamation mark at the end of this journey, encouraging listeners to take up space, honor their contributions, and never settle.
Overall, 'Caps 'N Stemz' is an EP that challenges, uplifts, and resonates deeply with themes of inner growth and collective consciousness. Mother Nature has once again brought us a project that feels both intimate and revolutionary, a reminder of the power of hip hop as a tool for change, rooted in the love and resilience of community.
