Taking the opportunity to catch up with Bri Trilla after her tour, I had the privilege of gaining exclusive insight into her artistic vision, humble beginnings, and the creative process behind her hit single 'Big Mood.' This interview sheds more light on the passion that drives Bri Trilla as an artist, as well as offers a deeper understanding of what contributed to the immense success of 'Big Mood.'
Q: How did you first get your start in music?
A: At a young age, I would see my uncle come home with a notebook filled with raps, and I took an interest in it. He would freestyle, and I would try to copy him. That's when I got into lyrics and started doing my own research on music. Q: Who were some early inspirations for music? A: Nicki Minaj, Jay Z, Biggie, Lil Wayne, Lauren Hill, Nas. Q: How did you come about crafting the single 'Big Mood'? A: The inspiration behind 'Big Mood' came from a space and place where I knew I needed a hit. A female friend of mine told me about some shiesty things someone did to her over a guy, which gave me the inspiration for the first bar. Additionally, I was coming out of a long-term relationship, so the message of "there are more men out there (1, 2, 3, 4, 500)" stemmed from that. The response so far has truly been an eye-opener because so many women can relate.
Q: Did you see the single being as successful as it is?
A: Honestly, no. I knew it would be a big song, but I didn't think it would reach this magnitude of success. Q: What was the initial response you received in your city before the song blew up? A: Everybody pretty much was sending me videos of celebrities doing a dance to my song on TikTok, telling me that my song was going viral. Q: How is it having a song that's a viral sensation? A: It's a good feeling. It makes you feel like all the hard work is finally paying off. It makes you want to do it again.
Q: What do you plan on doing with your current momentum?
A: I plan on continuing to push myself harder, push the brand, establish my name as an artist, and strive to get my music heard worldwide. Q: Describe the experience of the Big Mood Tour? A: It was a learning experience. It taught me stamina, stage presence, and I was able to interact with fans up close in person. Being able to travel and see different parts of the world was truly incredible. Q: What's your favorite thing about making music? A: The relatable feedback and the ability to express in a form that most people can't.
