By Julie S.Dave East takes us back to his humble beginnings in new video "Slow Down" I’ve been listening to Dave East for quite some time. Many are unaware that his Mass Appeal debut Kairi Chanel was his 10th project overall. He has a host of superb mixtapes definitely worth checking out. Still, Kairi was excellent, with features from 2 Chainz, The Game, Cam’ron and more. The day before the release he announced his signing with Def Jam records. The rest was history. I latched onto Slow Down as soon as I gave Kairi Chanel a proper stream. Dave isn’t about delivering radio hits, evident by the over 4 minute reflective cut. It’s been almost a year since the LP dropped, but Dave wasn’t afraid to put out its official music video today. The air time was split equally between Dave and magnificent singer Jazzy Amra. Dave details his street upbringing, his rise in popularity, and the struggle to maintain both. He also offers advice to his younger self, and other young ones still in the streets. There are short narrative sequences in the visual that power the heavy topics, and capture Dave’s childhood. Remember to watch out for Dave’s upcoming project Paranoia dropping August 18th.
