This year's Hyde Park Summer Fest took place June 17-18 at Midway Plaisance.
The two-day extravaganza brought together an incredible lineup of local and national hip-hop artists, along with Chicago’s mouth-watering food, amazing vendors, and family-friendly activities. From the electrifying performances to the delightful treats, there was something for everyone to enjoy at this festival!
A Taste Of Our Experience and What This Festival has To Offer
The two-day extravaganza brought together an incredible lineup of local and national hip-hop artists, along with Chicago’s mouth-watering food, amazing vendors, and family-friendly activities. From the electrifying performances to the delightful treats, there was something for everyone to enjoy at this festival! Festival-goers were treated to a mouthwatering culinary experience, with food trucks from Harold's and Uncle Remus's serving up their signature chicken. Not to mention the neighboring funnel cakes and ice cream that added to the spread. Other notable food vendors were Natcho Nachos, May Sweets, Lit Vegan, Pier 31, and more. The festival truly catered to all taste buds and kept everyone satisfied throughout the event.
Setting the tone for Day 1
The first day of the festival kicked off with a bang as Chicago duo Mother Nature took the stage, accompanied by their talented collective, Tha Gr8 Thinkaz. They set the tone for an unforgettable day of music and entertainment. As the day progressed, the crowd vibed to the sounds of Philmore Greene, Alex Isley, Tobe Nwigwe, 2Chainz, and more who all delivered incredible performances that had the audience captivated. Special sets coming from Red Cup Karaoke, Dj Cash Era, DJ Diesel, and more kept the grooving going on in between performances.
The night reached its pinnacle with a highly anticipated reunion performance by Clipse, leaving fans and festival-goers in awe. Clipse took everyone on a nostalgic journey with their iconic singles like "I'm Good," "Mr. Me Too," and "Grindin." It was an honor to witness this reunion right in the city. The Hyde Park Summer Fest truly paid homage to the rich history of hip-hop, showcasing beloved songs that have become a part of our lives.
Day 2: Chicago's Hip-Hop 50
The second day of the festival was a dedicated celebration of Chicago hip-hop, and it was nothing short of special. The Hip-Hop 50 performance featured an all-star lineup including Twista, Crucial Conflict, Do or Die, Shawnna, and Vic Mensa. This tribute to the city's homegrown talent was special, giving recognition and appreciation to the legends right where it all started.
As the day turned into night, the energy soared with performances by Kali, Lola Brooke, and the one and only Lil Kim. Kali and Kim surprised the audience by bringing out the emerging Mello Buckzz, paying homage to Buckzz in her respected city. The crowd erupted with excitement, making it a memorable moment.
Fun and Games in the Culture of Chicago
In addition to the incredible music, the festival offered a wide array of games, free samples, and merchandise from independent vendors. Notable vendors include Kuztomz by Shug, ATL Hookah, Mobile Lux Lounge/Cigars, and more. The vibrant atmosphere created a sense of peace and joy, allowing people have a great time on the grounds. A good Chicago festival can provide rich cultural experiences and incredible music, and the Hyde Park Summer Fest delivered on both fronts. Same time next year? The Hyde Park Summer Fest was an exceptional celebration of Chicago's music and culture. Thousands of people came together to enjoy two unforgettable days filled with amazing performances, good food, and endless fun.
