Kendrick Lamar set the bar even higher for true hip-hop.
Kendrick Lamar came from setting the bar with 'Control' to setting the bar with an award that was unimaginable for hip-hop.
The Pulitzer Prize expanded to music category in 1943. Kendrick made history by being he first rapper ever to win the award. Also, he was the first musician that wasn't in the classical or jazz category.
"DAMN" was just a great album overall. It has over 3.5 million album sales if you include digital. The number of streams are endless, as it was one of the more popular albums of 2017.
Tackling many issues on the track such as love, lust, fear, political issues, and more all while being a commercial album. With features from the likes of U2, Rihanna, and Zacari, this album was just that good. One of those bodies of work you must play start to finish, and end to beginning. If you haven't already, try it and thank me later.
Just a kid from Compton who wants to rap. Man this is big news right here. A Pulitzer prize was a personal goal of mine and to see one of my favorite rappers ever win the award is crazy to me. I watched my favorite rapper Jay-Z become the first rapper o be inducted into the songwriters hall of fame. Now, I watched Kendrick make history. It's a must that we give these guys their flowers while there here. I embrace history in the making every chance I get.
Congratulations once again to Kendrick Lamar. Make sure to stream his prestigious "Damn" album below.
