Chicago's Matt Whise drops the first single off his upcoming project The Kunoichi tape
I've kept a close watch on Matt Whise, a truly underrated MC out of Chicago. He's put together dozens of dope records and projects that are nearly flawless, and always compelling. He has an upcoming mixtape that I'm very excited for called The Kunoichi Tape. Based on the name alone I can't wait to see what it contains.
About a month ago Matt dropped an impressive freestyle that didn't get the attention it deserved - but if you caught it you most likely became a fan of his music. A single was due - and we've gotten that with his newest, Perfect Blue. It starts with a melodic overdubbed flow that almost sounds like it was recorded under water. Stick around for a minute or so and you'll hear Matt flex his rapping skills over an abstract and intricate beat from K, Le Maestro. Anime references are abundant, so be sure to pay attention. The artwork (by KNGPAO) sticks with the experimental theme of Perfect Blue, adding much to the experience of the record. Stream below and look out for Kunoichi.
