Portland's Mic Capes links with Drae Slapz for a superb collaborative EP, Sheesh
Portland's hip hop scene is finally getting some recognition. I adore the sounds coming out of the city, and have discovered so much great music this year.
Another notable act, and one of my favorite's, is Mic Capes. Mic is coming off winning Portland's Best Hip Hop album of 2016 with Concrete Dreams, and is looking to push his momentum even further. He's made a great case with his newest collaborative project Sheesh. He linked with superb producer Drae Slapz for the EP, and the results were phenomenal. It can be a risk working with just one beat-smith on a full length, but both artist's executed it perfectly. Drae has a very eclectic sound. He doesn't stick with the classic 808 trap beats that have become so popular. His instrumentals cannot be put inside of a box - but they range in pitch, pattern, intensity, and vibe. Mic capitalizes off Drae's work, molding his skills with every beat. He can rap his ass off, AND find his inner R&B prowess. The intro track is my favorite, but when I revisit his music I'll be playing Sheesh all the way through. I recommend you do the same.
