South-sider Monty Psychs releases a sonically engaging EP in Ronin
All human-beings struggle in one way or another at some point in their lives. My favorite albums are ones that are relatable, honest, and incorporate the artists' pain and suffering. Any MC, singer, or artist can make music about these experiences, but not all can do it well.
Enter Monty Psychs. His newest EP, Ronin, is a breath of fresh air in the expression of pain through music. Monty blends multiple genres with emotional story telling of his every day survival in the south side of Chicago. His aim was to inspire questions about social constructs and it’s effects on the common man, and I believe he achieved this. If his lyrics don't hit you, the production (and his vocals) will as long as you keep an open mind. It will take at least a few listens to understand Ronin, but it's worth putting in the work.
