ATL's RETRO pays homage to Cali in his first single off upcoming mixtape Nine 1
Atlanta MC RETRO is revamping his career, and the refresh is working wonders. He's performed at two incredible shows (BET Matter's stage & 107.9's Birthday Bash Party.) He's also a CEO, and intelligently builds his fans organically. His first single in this new stage of his career is called G Like, and it's quite impressive. He told me:
"I wrote the song at the end of my bed; I told myself that I have to key-in on places that made me fall in love with the Cali culture." It's an obvious ode to the g-funk started (arguably) by Dr. Dre in The Chronic days. Although he channels the classic Cali sound, he adds a modern twist keeping it original. There is no info on the producer - but he or she did an excellent job putting this together. Unfortunately, if you peep the prominent sites who posted G Like (thisis50.com, spitfire.com, etc) the write up is a direct copy and paste of the press release. Often the song is just posted without any writing. RETRO deserves much more praise, and I'm happy to give a little insight into his music.
