Canadian R&B icon The Weeknd made his debut to the game in March 2011. His mixtape House of Balloons was released digitally as a mixtape and then later released under XO. The tape is a staple from Weeknd's "dark" R&B approach, right before his pop crossover.
House of Balloons helped The Weeknd stand out from the many styles that was potent during the decade. The mixtape housed some classic tracks such as Wicked Games and High for This. The Weeknd, Doc McKinney, Illangelo, and more handled the production on the tape. The Weeknd's emergence in 2011 helped propel him and XO into stardom, along with his efforts for Drake's Take Care album. House of Balloons deserves a feature of the Throwback Mixtape of the Week. House of Balloons is now available on all streaming platforms, too. You can get a listen right now below, via Apple Music.
